Plus suburban voters have been trending hard Left for several election cycles, making John Deaton’s 2024 performance more of dead cat bounce or electoral ceiling than a path to 2026 GOP victory. As always, the ley to winning in politics is to convert your weakness into your strength. But Geoff Diehl ran on Trump policies and lost!!! Diehl had the right policies but the wrong marketing - too straight laced/blue blazer republican - not appealing to urban voters. Diehl also was the victim of treacherous GOP insiders.

Kennealy is the least Trump candidate, he didn’t vote for Trump, in fact he didn’t vote for “anybody” for president in 2024. But that didn’t stop the Mass Dems from labeling Kennealy as Trump’s BFF on the day he announced. The pro or anti Trump distinction might matter to Republicans, but it doesn’t matter to the Dems. Its a delusion to think that if the GOP nominates a moderate he’ll be able to run as a moderate.

The growth market for the GOP is the new generation of Reagan Democrats of the cities. Reluctant voters, they will only vote for someone they truly believe to be authentic and packaged to reflect their daily reality. Think more Fetterman than country club GOP.
